Hey...my post disappeared.....sigh....

StAnna....they may not be much chop as sailors but I tell you what they sink faster than a pit bull....

Paulo.....so very very cute indeed....

and Marty....its actually been a good month....

(from Sydney Morning Herald 14 Sept....)

"Usain Bolt, in Sydney for the Olympic anniversary celebrations, is the fastest man alive and a thrill to behold in full flight. But he’d struggle to beat a humble Aussie wombat over 100 metres - and have no chance over 200 metres. Before your cornflakes flood out through your nose, read on. According to The Science of Sport, Bolt’s top speed when he smashed his own 100m world record in Berlin last year, in a blitzing 9.58 seconds, was 43.93km/h. Pretty nifty, but a peak speed, not maintained throughout. His average speed was 37.58km/h. Now to the tubby, bumbling wombat. According to Gary Humble on the Scribbly Gum section of the ABC Science website, a wombat ‘‘can maintain a speed of 40km/h for 150m’’, a figure also referenced elsewhere. That would be nine seconds flat for the 100m - astonishing for a marsupial with shabby training habits and no sneakers - but from a running start. Who would breast the tape or shoot under it - first from a standing start? A wombat expert, James Woodford, author of The Secret Life of Wombats, agreed with the speed quoted above, but said its stamina meant the wombat could maintain its speed even longer. ‘‘I wrote in my book that they could line up with any sprinter and win,’’ he told us, ‘‘but that was eight years ago. Even if they would now lose against Bolt, when he pulled up puffing and turned to talk to the media, the wombat would keep going at the same speed for at least another minute.’’

WOMBAT......who said waste of money breath and time ?

To to think,......OUCH......dang nabbit, forgot about not thinking......OUCH!!

ok were was I, oh yeah, back when I did train to run......late 70's or some such thing, My best 100M was about 15 secs.....Altho I did pull of a 60 sec 1/4 mile 2:10 or there about in the 800, and 4:30 min in the mile. Short bursts were never my specialty!

They remind me of the local Hoary Marmots........

Marty

Argh, the conundrum - was it memory or wishful thinking; and at your age, there are no witnesses still around to refute your claim!
