Look: Businesses in this country have been hiring illegals for decades or It's all about the California mommies wanting a cheap nanny. Look at the Governors race there. She new the maid was a illegal. Ever heard of a W2?
She got caught doing what everyone else in California does.
Not to mention Farmers, Construction companies, Landscapers, etc... The list goes on and on. The trick is to Start fining (and I mean really fining) the employers and you'll see a change come quickly.

Would it be okay with you if I watch Fox after I listen to NPR, CBS and read articles from Huffington Post, Washington Post, etc? Or would you be more happy if I were to limit my news intake from government approved news sources?

Ah, well, actually not.

The housekeeper was hired through a reputable employment agency and presented what turned out to be falsified social security information (evidently belonging to a relative). The Whitman family paid all of the FICA, Workman's Comp and withholding taxes as a matter of course during the woman's entire employment, thinking she was legal. The woman was paid $47,800 per annum plus benefits plus the advantage of travel with the family. When the woman was shown to be an illegal, her employment was terminated. Out of foolish kindness, the Whitman family did not report her to ICE although they should have. The woman did not come forward until she was solicited by Whitman's political opponents, I suspect enticed by some prospective reward. That tactic might not have worked had the woman been able to find other employment but I suspect she could not, or could not accept the low wages and lack of benefits illegals' are typically forced to accept because of their status after having been well paid and rather generously for the prior 8 years.

I am no particular fan of Whitman but even less so of Gloria Allred who is at best a gutter snipe and by her self permoting actions has certainly worsened the prospects of the former housekeeper.

The internet gives us an opportunity to check a huge number of sources of information. While some like Huffington, Drudge, Fox, etc.. have definite biases, some seem to be more balanced. Some stories cause my "crap detector" to light up; when that happens, I start looking for verification. The Fox story, especially the clip, seemed somewhat hyberbolic, so I starting checking out the story. I found nothing on the 9th Court web site, but I found enough to convince me that there was something to the story.

I am surprised that the story is not getting more widespread coverage.
