Jeep AC?

a guy just came back to me with a pretty juicy counter offer for this jeep. HOWEVER, he has informed me that it has no ac. while the 2003 model does list is as an option, i cant imagine anyone would buy a car without it. especially in the flippin state of TX. if you zoom in on this console, it appears to be temp controls... anyone know if a non ac equipped vehicle has the same appearance as an ac equipped one? i dont wanna have to drive there just to check that out.... thanks...

It's a friggin' ragtop! Ditch the top, fold down the windshield and who needs the friggin' Afriggin'C?

If you need AC buy the Xterra- it is what every member of the herd wants.

Why buy a softtop if you can't live without AC?
Two words: Me. Ow.

It gets up above 100 degrees here on the south coast during the summer, and we just put the tops down on our cars (even the one with AC), because that's how we roll.

Justify it any way you want to. Whatever gets you through the day.

Can i get you a saucer of milk?

Seriously, I'm just playin'. The HVAC controls are rotary for both AC and non- AC versions of Jeeps, so there is no difference in appearance. The AC in a TJ isn't real effective anyway, when coupled with a flappy BLACK vinyl top.
xsboats had a point earlier, in an oblique kinda way- the xterra is a good package, but dollar for dollar, i think the best value in a used SUV is a Land Rover Discovery Series 1. We had a '96, and traded it for a Jeep Liberty... and I would trade back in a heartbeat. Now they are at the bottom of the depreciation curve, the still look good, and if the electrics haven't failed yet, they aren't going to. The drivetrain is bulletproof, the AC works, the visibility is great and they are seriously comfortable. Not a bad package for less that 5 large, with great aftermarket support.

thanks for the tip. must say it seems the high resale value of the liberty is more held up by the brand than the functionality, but you would know better as you have one. also looked at a chopped bronco, the old school landcruiser....

Hell, I would GIVE you our Liberty. Well, I'd charge you a dollar, cuz Liberty ain't free. Seriously, the thing is a friggin' toaster. It defines average- average fuel economy (or worse), average comfort, average performance, average repair cost, average reliability... it was SWMBO's choice, and after a month she wanted the Disco back.
It really has become an extraneous vehicle for us. She prefers to drive the Smart Cabrio, and I prefer to drive my VW Syncro in the winter, or my VW Thing in the summer. When a modern vehicle is left sitting in favour of smaller, or older or less luxurious rides, it says something.

T37Chef will become famous soon enough
Talking

QM...what you need is an old Jeep CJ5 or 7, then get a car with AC

I've had a CJ5, Wrangler, and a Grand Cherokee...all were junk, costly to maintain, but the fun factor of all of them was worth the price of admission IMO

Now if you want a real off road vehicle, and considering where you live, I would almost consider (just for a second) giving up the boat for this...

QM,
Maybe it is a hit or miss thing but my '02 TJ has A/C and it will freeze your family jewels unless you turn it down. I use the hardtop during the cold season and when the rec areas require it, and soft top or bikini top or no top the rest of the year.

As for the A/C controls on your picture, the knob on the right is the one that selects the A/C or regular air.
