World Junior hockey...my happy place

Well my favorite time of year is here. No its not Christmas (although thats not to bad either). After watching the Leafs attempt to play hockey, with the increase in blood pressure and profanity that brings on, its time for the World Junior hockey tournament to start. I actualy get to cheer for my team rather than hanging my head in shame. Nothing better than watching the best young players in the world strutting their stuff for their country and a chance to make the NHL. When I first got a HD television it was so I could watch this tournament in high definition.
Watched Canada play the Swiss in a exibition game last night, 8-0 for Canada. The Swiss are not a top tier hockey nation but they do have a pretty good hockey program, I thought they would do better. By the end of the secound period their goalie had the look you see in people involved in tragic car accidents. The Canadian team looked very good, no star players ( all playing in the NHL right now ) but big, fast and strong, lots of good bone crushing hits. Most important, the team work was solid, although the Swiss never really applied much pressure. It will be intresting to see how well the Canadian team will do this year without any big "stars".
Ah yes.... time to sit back and watch some of the best hockey your going to see outside of the Olympics or a Stanly cup final. Blood, sweat, tears, and brutal hits......its what Christmas is all about.

Yeah, I enjoy the Junior action too... a nice bonus for the Christmas break. It's good to see the drive and energy from the young players - without the gratuitous fighting that is too much a part of local Junior Hockey.

btw - edit your profile to get rid of the Stars and Stripes!

I agree, I don't mind fighting in hockey but most of it is either staged, a waste of time, or from players not man enough to take a hard hit. Still, as in life, there are times and places when the gloves have to drop. But back to the world juniors, Canada's next game is agianst Sweden. Should give us a better idea on how they will do.
What American flag are you talking about?

On the title bar of each post, below your indicated location there's a flag. Mine's Canadian, yours is still the default US. (This may not show up on all browsers, so maybe you don't see any of them) Oddly, I can't find where to set it right now, I'll get back to you on that.

EDIT: Under additional information in your profile make sure you've selected 'Canada' in the Country box.

Still can't see any flag, but edited my profile, hopefully it has a Canadian flag there now.

Go Canada Go!!!! Doubt I'll be able to see any of the games this year, but I'll keep looking at the web for updates.

The only season tickets we've ever had for sports were for the Seattle Thunderbirds. Junior Hockey is great, maybe I can find some of it on the internet (no TV).

Faster- I don't see any flags for anyone (Mac), does that make me an Internationalist? Can I have a flag for that?

John - most networks stream their programs live on the net these days. Here's TSN's schedule:

WJHC on TSN

Doesn't look like TSN is streaming any US games, but the US networks likely will!

Re Flags... on the post banners for each user I see (at the right margin):
Join date
location
post count
Country (shown with a small flag)
User's rep

and to think I was considering going to Mac!

Fast- thanks for the link, we'll have to tune in.

I see all of that except no flag or space for it. Oh well.
