What did you Aussies do to deserve such a shellacking????

Must be dreadful for anyone in the area... best wishes to all.

TDW,
If it is a category 5 storm it is going to be very ugly adding injury to insult.
I have not seen any pressure estimates for the center of this storm.
In the US we actually pay people to fly through the center of these storms to measure the central low pressure. The pressure is just one measure of how powerful these storms can be. Max. windspeed, width, storm surge and rain fall are other measures.
I'm hoping it does not create to big a mess but we all know that is unlikely.

If it was less serious I guess I'd be making jokes about Queenslanders.

Caleb,
Due to come ashore this evening so I guess we'll know the worst come tomorrow morning our time.
Apart from the potential for devastation in FNQ (far North Qld) it will probably result in more rain for SEQ as the thing dies down. More rain is about the last thing those poor buggers need right now and to think it was only last year that most of the eastern part of Australia was in the grips of the worst drought in living memory.

Andrew,
I'd like to hear some jokes about Queenslanders sometime. Now may not be an appropriate time and I would probably not understand the jokes without a thorough explanation.
I am something of a self professed storm nut. I enjoy checking out the local shore areas when we get the rare tropical system passing the NY area. Perhaps it is a morbid curiosity or perhaps I enjoy seeing the power of the weather, and maybe a bit of both. The worst I witnessed was a category 1 (or possibly less) in hurricane Gloria back in the 1980's and that was enough.
I feel badly for the poor blokes and sheilas who are in the way of this one. There is a thread on the wbf by a member who lives near Innisfall who already evacuated inland: bye bye cruel world........
This may bring an early fall season to an entire region. It is tough on wildlife as well.
Stay safe.

So it's not just the US that gets hurricanes

This monster is about to make landfall in Australia where they have just had multi-billion dollar floods.

Seems like these poor folks have no end to their misery in sight.

Hope that our members (Fuzzy, SimonV, et al) are clear of this. . . . .
