Must read letter from a county emergency manager in Minot ND, after 25' snowfall

Got this by email today. It's a great read.

I'm not in any way posting this to minimize the impact of any hurricanes or anything else that ever happened anywhere. Those events can be nearly impossible to prepare for. I'm simply posting this because I think it's refreshing to read something like this.

(I didn't pass it through snopes or otherwise verify it's accuracy. Like I said, I enjoyed the read.)

Regards,
Brad

-------- beginning of the email ---------

Maybe we should make North Dakota the capitol of the USA. This text is from a county emergency manager in Minot, North Dakota.

Minot Daily News

WEATHER BULLETIN
Up here in the Northern part of North Dakota we just recovered from a Historic event --- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 25’ of snow and winds to 50 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:

Obama did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor's did not blame Obama or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Obama or anyone else either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or even report on this category 5 snow storm.

Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Brad Pitts, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUVs to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn’t ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snow bound families..

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category 5 blizzard of this scale is not usual, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

I hope this gets passed on.
Maybe .....
SOME people will get the message ......
The world does Not owe you a living.

Hey Brad

Yes a great read, fiction often is; especially when it has matured for 6 years.

Sorry about snowing on the parade. It is amazing how these viral emails get so much circulation.

I was suspicious because Manitoba did not get a huge snowfall. The 2010 date was a bit of a giveaway.

South Dakota 324.0 Lead 1997 Record US Snowfalls For One Year - Current Results
North Dakota 103.0 Steele 1970
Washington 621.1 Stevens Pass 1965
and i have pictures of over 15 feet on snoqualmie pass in Washington for 07-08 winter total of 50 feet for year. WSDOT - Snoqualmie Pass Closure and Snowfall Records
so location may incorrect but the amount happens all the time on major roads in the us.

So how do you keep a boat in those areas? Is the whole marina yard covered in tons of snow?

Anyone got a picture of a boatyard that's under 20 feet of snow? I'd think it would be crushingly impossible to store a boat there outside.

Regards,
Brad

Brad

About 10 years ago Sidney BC and the rest of the PNW got hit badly. The roofs on boathouses collapsed, sinking boats. No pictures of that, but this has some winter shots

I remember that snow fall year, I was at the top of I90 snoqualmie with my kids stuck in a 24' RV trailer, had 5' or something like that in about 24 hrs. Finally got to a TV, saw all the commotion going on in the greater seattle area. Marina where I am not, had half or so of the covered slips go down, a client had a boat under one of the collasped roofs, his boat was on the bottom, or maybe a birdie is saying, stayed afloat without too much damage. An auto part down the road from my house had a flat roof come down...........

The email read is good, but as snoops showed, sometimes all one does is change a few words, to something newer.........

Last I heard, Mt baker had the most snow fall for a 365day time frame, before that Paradise on Mt Rainer. Now for a week or a given storm......not sure about who is tops.

Quote in top paragraph from that link newhaul

"The heaviest annual snowfall ever measured in the entire United States and the world is 95 feet (29 metres) that fell between July 1, 1998 and June 30, 1999 at the downhill ski area on Mount Baker, Washington."

the 600 and some odd inches at Stevens is only 52'! so i was correct, mt baker had the most! Altho, I am not sure why the stevens pass amount is showing for Wa state, when the baker stat should be tops. Paradise had the record per "Guinness book of records"

Marty

Now that I am reading the first line, the measurements listed are for these operated measuring sites! Mt Baker was done per the ski area I believe.......... last sentence on edit!
