The Media - SNAFU

The recent events in Queensland, flood and cyclones, have received a fair amount of coverage in the media but this little gem of a media blooper was a highlight.....

Standard here in the States too. The media goes to public schools for twelve years then college four years for Journalism and half the time the cannot spell a word with Spell check right in front of them.
Oh well most great nations only lasted a few hundred years anyway. America is at 236..

What's that 236 since declaration of independence ? Thats true but the US has only been top dog since when ? Sometime between 1914 and 1918 I guess. As far as great powers go the USA is a babe in arms.

The British Empire came into being around the 17th century and ground to a halt in the 20th.

Rome had a pretty good innings as well. Top dog for some 500 years ?

China and Japan have had their moments, Russia seems to have been around for a year or two and while no longer great powers Holland, Spain and Portugal have histories far longer than a mere 236 years.

That said the US may well end up outliving them all, such is its uniqueness.

I went from it's inception July 4, 1776.
We had already had two wars and a civil war (our deadliest in history) before we even hit the twentieth century. Not to mention the trail of tears and such.
But if it is from the beginning of the twentieth century we can start, then Heck! We're still golden...:-)
