Smile Caribbean CRUISING ON A JET SKI-24 countries!

Hello

I am working on a project to start in Trinidad/Venezuela and ride a SEADOO to the US. (Website link removed) . Here challenging sailors to give useful information to make epic trip more doable...not "Your going to die, don't do it", or "I hate Jet skiers"

Need help in the following problem areas:

1. Way to have 20 gallons fuel supplied in addition to the stock 18 gallons. Jerry cans would be ideal except to difficult to add during 6-8' waves. Custom tanks have caused other PWCers problems with seals getting into the fuel pump.

Any good fuel container options?

2. BOAT SUPPORT.Longest leg about 109 miles from DR to Turks. Average crossing distance 60 miles. Anyone have any ideas on how to buddy up with other boaters as to have a support boat in proximity should pwc have breakdown.

3. Communication in need or rescue. Will a PLB and handheld vhf with separate antenna provide enough communication, range of communication? Will also have flares, dye and mirror

4. How to find somewhere to sleep after passage? Do you think the sailing community might be open to providing such an adventurer such as myself a berth while in Port. Perhaps my story sharing would provide equitable remuneration for such generosity.

5. When to go. What time of year (4 month windo) would likely have the best sea conditions? Huriccane Season?

6. Prohibited PWC use. Other than BVI (which I have gotten permission for) are there any other PWC banned areas?

7. CLEARING What paperwork will i need for all of these countries to clear other than state registration and a passport?

8. Exhaustion Tips for deling with difficult sea conditions and fatigue during crossing.

9. Dealing with Engine failure and repair options

10. any other precautions or tips?

Thanks for all of your help and support.

Looking forward to you posts

Currently banned in St.Vincent and the Grenadines I think.

Because of the activities of a small number of PWC users they are not very well liked amongst most of the sailboat community. Now if you had been kitesurfing from Trini ???

Good heavens, what a place to ask such questions.

Have to say that the only reason I'd encourage you would be that Trinidad/Venezuela is half a planet away from me and I won't have to put up with you and your rotten machine.

Anywho you don't want to know how much I detest jet skiers so I guess I am done.

ps - do it in the hurricane season ... just a thought.

oh yes and btw .. links to website have been removed

What is interesting and perhaps telling is the reception this thread received over at CF. 6 + pages of mostly constructive suggestions in about a day.
Not much interest here apparently.

Have you tried Sailing Anarchy? I'm sure they would enjoy hearing about your idea and offer many suggestions...

I'm amazed that any Sailing site would offer more than the time of day. These things are an utter pox and yep, if I had my way, they would be banned from being operated anywhere near moored or anchored vessels.

Admittedly the newer four strokers are less offensive than the two but even so they are still a damn site more irritating than good old fashioned peace and quiet.

I was hired as a salesman at a local motorsports dealership in 1992. It was a three month job, only for watercraft season. I sold motorcycles and that freed up the other salespeople to sell watercraft. When I'd tell my sailing friends where I worked the responce was universal: "You sell those damn watercraft!?"

Now most of those same folks one one, or two.

Although I'm still not a big fan I must say they have improved over the years. Part of my job (yeah, I still work there) is to test ride bikes, jet boats and watercraft. Much like my other passion, motorcycling, I think its the operators not the vehicle who cause problems.

And, if you think watercraft are annoying ........ check out the next jet drive product, available now for a hunderd grand:

YouTube - new jetlev flyer video

Comming to a waterway near you!

Oh hell no!

I'll actually admit it looks like fun... but it's not something I'd be happy around whilst sailing.
