Hypothetical 4 yea..

Ok,, So you are a young pup wanting to be an old salty dog.. You pile all yer stuff in your suv and park at a trusted buddies house for a couple years..

You take a good size backpack and a tent, and hop on a train headed for baltimore MD in search of a better life.This life being in the form of a little hole in the water called a cheap sailboat.

You get off the train look around and say to yer self, we aint in kansas no more toto..

So you head out of the pen station and the fun begins (Likely to be arriving at night). Do you
A :Go a few blocks to the north and try and put up a tent for the night at druid lake? Is this safe? (Mostly asking people from the area that may know).

Or B: head towards the docks and try and find a place to camp? from google earth the docks look pretty locked down and not a lot of park rec areas to camp at.

Do you say screw it I been on a train for 3 days i'm getting a hotel and if so what's safe/ cheap / close in this town?

I like the idea of getting a hotel but I am really trying to save the kitty for the important things.. I can always catch a shower and a shave at a local rec center.

Then heading out to look at boats by appointment (or random run ins ).

any place walking distance of Balt's penn station is not going to be real decent territory..even some of the hotels will be tough. Druid Hill Park is closely patrolled, as it is ground zero for a lot of illegal activity, none of which you want to be the "guest" in.

+1 for a hotel, that way you have a good nights rest to check out all the boats in Baltimore.
