dontsail is on a distinguished road
I have a Sail... But Don't Sail (Help?)

I have a sail for a Santana 28.

A prior owner of the home I purchased must have left it at some point. I have the sail, boom and rope. The tag on it shows it was repaired and never returned to the boat. It has been stored safely in a heated basement.

Can I sell it? What is the right way to handle this... Thanks...

I think if you bought the house, you get anything left behind. You can contact the seller if you wish. If you decide to sell it, list on ebay and craigslist.

Depending on where you are located, there are some lofts that resell used sails and other places that resell all sorts of things (like the boom) on consignment. It probably will be a slow sell--but the boom is worth money. If you're impatient, sell it to a scrap yard as aluminum scrap.

The sail, depending on condition, may not be worth the cost of shipping it out. But if it had been repaired...maybe it was worth repairing and will be worth selling. You'd have to take some pictures and give a good description to the consigment houses. Bacon's in Annapolis, Atlantic Sail Traders in Sarasota FL...there are a handful more.

If you've got a local chandlery or sailing supplier, there's often a bulletin board where you can post a for-sale card free.
