Wombat sighting in Victoria!

Must be a slow news week. Cute little critter, ain't he?!?

Southern hairy-nosed wombat found in Victoria - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

He hasn't made it to Melbourne yet - perhaps some day soon... although with a new boat to look after, who knows?!?

Personally, I have always thought wombats were ugly, smelly critters. Typically Australian animals (tough as nails, steady as a rock, and more stubborn than anything else seen under the sun), but not the best looking things.

Only us Aussies could find them attractive me-thinks. Anyone remember that one they had on "A Country Practice"? Man, that's showing my age!

Can't wait to see one on a (new) sailboat though

I now await the thunderous invocation of mod super-powers

Ha ... have you had a good look at yourselves ? An oversized rat and a myopic mutt.

Mea culpa in reality. After all Wombats would be the only thing in the world dumb enough to believe that a dog sized rodent can stop a road train simply by staring it down.

You know the Wombat thing originally came about when I was an active member of a crop circle ufo bulletin board. Many UFOlogists have this inane belief that the bible is full of UFO reports and I delighted in dumping on the fools with my modicum of biblical knowledge. My moniker in those days was Townes and some wit decided I should be annointed religous leader of the group and renamed Rev Townes of the Wombat Diocese shortened soon after to TDW. So there you go. Now wasn't that interesting ?

Shoot, I'm sitting here waiting for a computer tech to arrive who is hoping to seriously enrich himself by attempting to repair the Wombet's PC which crashed and burnt this week. This was shortly before we found out that her backup drive was corrupted.

Guess where I would rather be ?

Oh give the man a cigar ... or as my nephew would say "no shite sherlock".

Anywho, I am now waiting for the W's hard drive to copy itself onto a new external drive. The man arrived with a bit of software wizadry that has been able to boot the machine off a CD and run a drive recovery resource. She'll have to get a new machine when this over and until the copy is complete I have no idea how many files have been corrupted but I'm in a better place than I was first thing.

and you know what ... this piece of miracle software came from a free CD attached to a computer magazine. He had to rewrite some of it to enable a boot but thus far thus goodly.

and he refused to charge for his time though he is going to come back and redo our entire network plus backup regime where each computer's hard drive will be auto copied onto a twin hard drive thingy that is beyond my limited understanding.

P'raps they can't stop a road train, but your average car or light truck is generally no problem - and they have the nerve to then hop up and wander off, leaving you to wonder how you'll get to you next destination with your transmission some distance from where the car currently lies forlornly bleeding (oil) to death!!..

"Mobile speed-humps" is what Wombats truly is...
