In Alaska dogs are regularly fed fish, especially working dogs (ie: sled dogs). The Dog Salmon gets it's name from the fact that in nets you would keep the kings, reds, silvers for the family and use the dogs for the dogs. They are otherwise known as Chum salmon. Most I know, including us, cook it to preserve it so that what is caught in the summer can be used all winter.
We also run out of kibble sometimes and our dogs live it up with some older reds that have become freezer burnt.
Be careful though, if your dog has been on kibble for a long time and you suddenly switch them to all fish, you will have other messes on board. We usually see the end of the kibble coming and do a bit of a blend with rice, then richen it up over time. All kibble one day to all fish and you may end up with liquid yuck coming out both ends all over the boat.
