Comcast Digital TV & the Black Box

Now they want me to rent a box to receive digital TV for my ancient 15 year old analog.
My question is:
If I bought a new digital enhanced TV, would I still have to rent the box to receive other than local access channels?

I'm not interested in premium movie channels, just History etc.

Without the black box, you will be able to receive the channels in the basic cable package. I don't think the history channel is one of them, at least not in my neck of the woods.
