Well, I believe that I have been referred to as a fine feathered septic, or was that skeptic?
For those wishing to live vicariously I'll give a thumbnail description of my past 2 weeks sailing experiences.
Our last 2 Weds. night beer can races we placed 2nd and then 1st in our 27' Tartan, beating boats we have no business beating: Tartan 30', Catalina 30', Cal 28', O'Day 27' to name a few in our fleet. Is this because we are such good sailors? My money is on the new full battened loose footed mainsail we just bent on ($1800 US later) but we seem to be a pretty good sailing team (usually 3).
I've also been a volunteer instructor at a local sailing program for 12 - 16 year olds that convenes from 9 - 12 Monday - Friday. They use the Sunfish sailboat which is about 14' long, lateen rigged dinghy. They are one of the boats I learned to sail on and can be really fun if the wind gets over 10 knots as they will plane. Too bad the wind has been quite light most mornings and usually builds towards evening. The kids have been enjoying themselves and I enjoy trying to share my enthusiasm for sailing with them. It is funny to see how a few kids just 'get it' while others 'not so much'. I do see a marked improvement in some kids who are back for a 2nd year though.
Here is the worst part: it has been very sunny and warm (near 90 F) with mostly blue skies but typically light winds of our summer season. I am trying to stay out of the sun as much as I can but I've still got a tan and probably a red neck in the process. Our 'high summer' here is just beginning and the summer noisy insects (Cicadas etc.) are just starting their run. No hurricanes in the Atlantic to worry about yet and no end in sight.
I hope your weather improves.
Slainte!
