Good news for Canada and Australia
TOP 10 MOST LIVEABLE CITIES, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit:
1: Melbourne, Australia
2: Vienna, Austria
3: Vancouver, Canada
4: Toronto, Canada
5: Calgary, Canada
6: Sydney, Australia
7: Helsinki, Finland
8: Perth, Australia
9: Adelaide, Australia
10: Auckland, New Zealand
Vancouver missed out because the Economist does not understand geography.
Quote:
Melbourne, Australia's second city, has edged out Vancouver for the title of "world's most liveable city."
But the reason for Vancouver's demotion -- a highway closure on Vancouver Island -- has many wondering whether the survey didn't make a mistake this time around.
Vancouver had enjoyed first-place rank in the Economist Intelligence Unit's annual 140-city Global Liveability Survey since 2002, but this year fell to third place, behind Melbourne and Vienna.
According to the Economist, Vancouver suffered "a small adjustment" in its score because of the closure of the Malahat Highway on Vancouver Island. As critics have pointed out, the Malahat Highway is separated by 60 kilometres and a large body of water from the city of Vancouver.
The Malahat Highway north of Victoria was closed for 22 hours in April after the crash of a fuel tanker truck.

Makes you wonder about their methodology doesn't it?

For those of you who don't know our geography, this is akin to dropping Manhattan two place due to a critical highway closure 75 miles out on Long Island, if there were no bridges only two hour ferry rides to get off Manhattan.

Hah!! They obviously don't live here...
Why isn't Singapore on the list?? With a crime rate of near-zero, cheap food and clothing and not-much-worse-than-here housing prices, the only thing they have to complain about is the weather.
I'd suggest you completely ignore that list - it ain't worth space on the internet, let alone any paper they might print it on.

Singapore ?
Only somebody who lives in Melbourne could think that Singapore is a desirable place to live .....

Too bloody right mate! Stay right where you are. If you could see what it was like today?? Tsk, tsk..
At some point I'll get to put the winter woolies away... and it doesn't even snow here. At least if it snowed, there'd be some point to it all.
Heh. Anyone for a sail?? It's maybe 15 degrees outside, overcast, low grey clouds scudding across with a very good chance of rain later.. probably blowing 10-15kts straight from Antarctica... a short, steep chop, so you wouldn't get soaked right through but just wet enough that, coupled with the wind chill you'll be frozen stiff in 5 minutes.
Yep, a typical Melbourne day!!

Singapore more like Vancouver, plenty of Chinese. Good food too. But you guys can keep you cold ass rainy weather. Think I'll go for a swim in the 28 C water 140 miles North of Singapore...

no one likes a smart arse ...
Noow 10 miles north of Singapore I reckon I could live with but Singapore itself does not appeal though I'll concur re the food.

Always been a big fan of Asian food. Working a tour of Asian food destinations into a decent cruising route is on my bucket list
