2001 and 2010 have to be seen with 1968 and 1984 eyes to truly appreciate them.

100% agreed on star wars, it's pretty much gone downhill.

Star trek, have you watched these:
Star Trek Phase II - Undiscovered Mirror Site
While they're fan produced films, they are remarkably well made and have appearances by several original cast members.

I used to be a big movie freak, but have pretty much given up on them. Except for Indies and animated films, few are really worth watching today. They seem to rely far too much on cgi to cover the lack of plots.

It's odd that the animated films often have more of a plot and better 'acting', than high budget mainstream movies.

I'd also like to see a sequel to Wall-e

Actually, 2001 has to be seen on acid to truly appreciate it. There were so many little "bits" in that movie that simply don't work any more - the $2 phone call Floyd made from the space station was SUCH an outrageous price back then - $0.25 or so would have been current. The screens on the control panel of the spacecraft that were made by IBM - SO futuristic. There were lots of them that are just obsolete history now - people won't get them but they were a significant part of the "genius" and futuristic quality of the film.
