What would you have done? Open water II

Well, since I cant be out sailing... and i have nothing better to do...

I jsut finished watching the movie Open Water 2 and it is very interesting.. I really just liked the boat they were on and all the sailing shots

If you have not seen it watch the trailer here:

open water 2-adrift trailer.mp4 - YouTube

I would like to know what other people would have done in their situation,

(What I would have done)
I would have probably tried to put a hole/puncture in the boat and climb up

Or..

Usually tehre always seems to be a lazy jib sheetor halyard tail dragging, guess not in their case.

Probably would have tried to climb up the anchor too.

I guess my future boat wont have that much freeboard and hopefully an open transom to avoid situations like this

What would you do

Avoid the situation in the first place. We have gone swimming mid-ocean but keep one person onboard just in case and to keep an eye out for sharks. We tend to be quite cautious but that is the best way in my view.

I have a fold down stern ladder that I tie up with a ball elastic sail tie, from the ladder I always drag a line, just short of the water. This line when pulled pops loose the sail tie & drops the ladder,so I can board without hitting my head! --Dale

Never, ever, ever - take a camera crew sailing with you. Bad stuff happens...obviously. I mean, have you noticed that the scuba divers in OW1 had a camera crew with them? And the sharks didn't even mess with those dudes!

..except they were adrift with no anchor down...

That movie was unsettling, mainly because I could see it happening so easily - becalmed, hot, "hey, let's take a little dip!" *splash*....*splash*.... oh crap, what have we done??

The way the personalities emerged in that incident was interesting too... I thought it was pretty well done, considering the way most sailing/boating footage in movies is poorly handled and hard to believe.
