Where to find lobster?

Hello all, I live on the oregon coast on a liveaboard but planing on sailing south (maybe as far as Costa Rica) come spring and was wondering at what point sailing south along the California coast will i be able to get some lobster. I was thinking the channel islands. I dive and spear fish but use rings or pots also. Any good spots anyone knows about? Any good tricks would be helpful too.

bj, you'd want to check the fihing regulations for everyplace you plan to go. Taking lobsters especially can get you in trouble if you don't have a permit, if you use illegal equipment (which can be almost anything), if it is out of season, if they are the wrong length or have eggs on them, and more.

Folks tend not to share information about good lobster spots. And the wily lobster often lurks under rocks and inside old tires, they can give you a good challenge. They're also nocturnal and most likely to come out at night.
