Waterworld heating and cooking help

Im working on my boat and would like to know every ones thoughts on ways to heat, cook, and have hot water on their sailboat in warmer climates or colder ones without having to get diesel or propane. I have a propane stove w/oven, 110v 1/2 gallon h/w tank for dishes, propane clay heater and electric heat when at a dock. I need to get a h/w heater with a heat exchanger and thought of a diesel gravity heater with a cooking plate on top but then theres the buying fuel thing. I would like to make my sailboat fully self sufficient. I have solar and a wind generator with an inverter and know electronics very well so i know its not feasible to have cooking and heating with electric. I thought having a wood heater(drift wood can be found) with an oven and water coils would work. I have talked to some people about the pros and cons of soot and open flames aboard with sails but would like to know your thoughts. I have read about electric motors for and engine and think its a good idea as long as you have a generator for power when the batteries die and then we are back to the same thing of buying fuel for the generator (catch 22) So whats your thoughts on being off the grid?

Davey Hot Pot - It will heat the entire boat (30') very nicely.

bljones has a spectacular aura about bljones has a spectacular aura about
alcohol.
non pressurized alcohol stove, alcohol heater like an origo, heat your hot water for dishes and washing in a pot on the alcohol stove, you might even be able to find an old alcohol bulkhead heater if you don't like the origo heat pal.

Does your wood stove model come with a cooking plate option? I was just talking with the girlfriend and the question of running out of propane and not being plugged in for a hot plate at the docks was brought up. Can you cook when you run out of alcohol for the stove?

chrisncate,
Wow, I love your heater! My boat came sans heater, and I'm dreaming about a heater that puts out plenty of dry heat, which can help with the condensation issues as well as keep the cabin at a reasonably balmy temperature. How big is your boat? Where did you get your heater?

Wood stoves can really heat deck fittings. The old fashioned water ring isn't much good on a thicker deck head so I made a double walled water container from SS pipe. The stove thinks it's part of the stove pipe and when you pump cold fresh in, the hot flows out the top and down to the galley sink via plumbing. Holds over a gallon and only works on non pressurized systems like a foot pump because of the vent in the tank.Needs a two way valve at sink to divert to hot.

That's true, the deck plate area gets hot.
