Angry Thieving B@#tards...

We just got a new tool for peeling Gelcoat on Thursday, bought by the boat owner and to be deducted from the boat work. A very unique tool at $800. Saturday night, the shop was hit and most of the power tools stolen, including the new tool that had maybe 10 hrs on it. We are stopped cold until I go spend material money on tool replacement tomorrow. If it wasn't a damned holiday, I'd be out there this morning and we'd be working this afternoon.

Bummer, Charlie... our kids got broken into last week (2nd time) - Can't understand how these guys can feel entitled to do that sort of thing.

Maybe it's time to invest in a camera system with high definition cameras to better identify the thieves. A large, nasty tempered dog wouldn't hurt either. Really sucks that a crew that does quality work like yours gets hit.

That sucks! I wonder if you were targeted or a random victim of theft. I can't imagine there is much of a market for used marine tools. I hope this listserv is not being cased by criminals.

The uniqueness of the gelcoat peeler should help the police find the thief, assuming he or she tries to fence it, and assuming the theft will be investigaged.

That sucks. Did they bust open a locked tool crib or steal a whole roller cabinet, or what?

Nah, got into the building and took what they wanted. There haven't been any thefts of tools for years at the yard. The yard does have cameras and I'll be looking at video for hours today.

a life of entitlement for almost 50% of the population...we give them cell phones, free day care, free medical care, food cards, rides to the Dr, housing vouchers, 2 yrs unemployment to sit on their bums...

and ask nothing from them...they continue to drink, use drugs, vandalize, etc.; thus it will only get worse.

Seems to me to be the normal (and far more often occurring) progression of things.

One guy here in Northern Virginia, had to stop one of these fine fellows from taking his motorcycle about 11pm...the thief explained to him that his bike was at the curb, next to the trash can, which meant he was throwing it out...luckily the thief ran, rather than stand his ground

Even with the video, you will be hard pressed to make anything stick. Even if they were caught in the act, most plead out or if they are young - released to the parents..."they are good kids, and they didn't mean to" steal your stuff.

Get used to it, as no one seems to be inclined to put a stop to it..

Shucks, that's bad news. Start watching craigslist and make friends with the guys behind the counter at the pawn shops. That tool may be unique enough that they'll remember it if you leave them a picture and it comes through the door later. If you have serial numbers for the police, the items will go into a database that may get a hit if they stop the bad guys and are curious enough to run numbers of all the tools in their trunk. I mark all my stuff with my Washington Driver's license number. Cut's down on having a long list of serial numbers.
