I know it is the mod's there though. Some of them wear their hearts on their sleeves and jump at nothing.
Give a little power to some douche bag and you have our beloved TSA people at our airports and even forum moderators.
I'm glad that it is generally a little more even handed here.

Sorry. I know that last post of mine was confusing Bob.
sneuman's quoted reply in my previous post was in response to what I posted a while back (now quoted above).
I remember what happened to who and where when you were banned from CF. It is the how or why I'm very soft on. I remember a lot of stuff I shouldn't care about.
I know you like opera and many kinds of music. I remember that you found an old friend through your blog, one you worked with in Asia.
I remember that Smackdaddy (aka, runs-with-knives) has 2 kids and his wife was a bit afraid to meet up with some of us SN folks when we met him here on LI. I also remember hearing or reading that he was in the Peace Corps in the South Pacific and does some form of 'marketing' - whatever the he!! that is.
I remember a lot of stuff that most people don't think of as significant. You've gotta' use what you've got: you've liked drawing boats since you were a kid and I've always liked accumulating random observations and perhaps my own situational awareness.
Here is an example that probably deserves it's own thread:
We stumbled upon the new Greenpeace "Rainbow Warrior iii" that was tied up on the west side of Manhattan and took the free tour of their new boat:
The Rainbow Warrior | Greenpeace International
I've never tasted whale meat so I'm not really a big advocate of this organization either way, but it was a big, new sailboat with "A" frame masts so I was curious to have a look. The young guide did not really know very much about the boat but was pleasant enough. We arrived at the stern of the boat where the heli-pad is and only I (out of about 15 people) noticed that one of the aft stays of the ship was harmonically vibrating, perhaps from the 'green' generator running below decks. None of the other huge stays or shrouds were pulsing and the ship was tied up at the dock in minimal wind. I mentioned it to a crew member (not the tour guide) and they brought a few people down to inspect it.
Now, I'm no marine architect but I have a problem with the rigging if one of the aft stays is pulsing while the ship sits at the dock. That stay is either too loose or there may be some other construction flaw with this vessel that transmits the vibrations from the engine room below to that quarter of the ship. I left them to sort it out.
The "A" frame masts were a new feature I'd never seen. The sails were huge and all controlled by hydraulic machinery. I also saw no backup way for a human sailor to cope with the sheets and halyards if the hydraulics failed. I said nothing as there did not seem anyone technical enough or interested enough in what I had to say.
Still an interesting tour.
