CalebD will become famous soon enough
The dead of winter (in the northern hemisphere) used to get dead as a door nail around here while a few folks from Oz posted now and again. It still probably is a bit dead in a relative sense but I'm happy to see some active, new, younger members joining up. I'm also happy to see a slightly more polite 'culture' develop.
I also stay away from the Politics/Religeon/War/Garbage threads as I really don't want to know what your political bent is. What we should have in common is a love of sailing.

But I notice that the number of new threads and the number of people on the site just seems to be dying off.

What gives?

This is def NOT a nasty forum, at all. I have learned so much here. I just hope that the pittance I post myself is even a fraction as useful as what the more experienced cruisers/sailors post.

As for nastiness, I get the feeling that the posters over at sa may generally be younger, competitive racing types whereas the crowd here tends to be a little older and more laid back, thus less nasty. Just a theory...

Unlike some other forums, this one seems to have a lot of informed, knowledgeable, and helpful people. I have seen very little personal attack type of interaction. That kind of thing just turns everyone off and the more intelligent posters just put them on "ignore." Of course, in the Political forums there will always be healthy heated disagreement among the politically incorrect which is very refreshing in our increasingly stifled culture.
