Visiting California

OK fellow sailnetters, I Need suggestions....

The admiral and I are taking a cruise out of LA in mid April. The ship is going to San Fran, Santa Barbara, San Diego and some little Mexican town just across the border.
While we are in the 3 CA. cities for just daytime activities, what are some "Must Do" places we should be going to? Don't mind if they are typical tourist attractions, just looking for neat places to visit.
We vacationed in SF some years ago, and I seem to remember that we were disappointed we didn't hit Alcatraz. Is it worth the trip?

To Do In San Francisco

Hi,
Ton of things to do in SF...I am actually working on a class project to help neighborhoods come up with promotions attractive to sailors, and AC enthusiasts. Here is the link if you are interested in helping:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...FtakE6MQ#gid=0

Check out my introduction post for more info.

As Far As SF Must Do:
It really depends on what time of year you come, and what your interests are:

Summer Hosts:
Japanese Festival
AC Cup Series Events
Red Bull Luge
Fillmore Jazz Fest
Opera in the Park

Art Cultural:
China Town's Hand Made Fortune Cookie Factory...Watch in Person
Yeurba Buena Gardens Art Gallery Walking Tour
Barbary Coast 3.8 Mile Walking Trail, with Cable Car Ride Back [Must Do For Any Real Sailor....there is a small bar at the end of a short walking alley across the street from The City Lights Bookstore on Columbus Ave....Great Nautical Collection Of Decorations...Good Old Fasioned/ SideCars]

Food:
Mission District: Buy Rite IceCream
Waltzwerks German Food
Tarantine Bakery
Portero Hill: Chez Mama Onion Soup
Chez Papa Onion Soup

Other:
Off The Grid Mobile Food Vendors [Online: The Creme Brulee Cart is said to change lives, and he has 12500 twitter followers]
San Remo Hotel in on Mason in NorthBeach for Accommodations less than $100, and KENNEDY bar nearby for some eating and drinking.
And So Much More.

Good Luck, And if You Can Take the Time To Read My Class Assignment, and Take the Survey, or Share it With Your Friends I would Greatly Appreciate It.

Eric

The Rock is worth a visit I think, well, I enjoyed it. Probably not as good when crowded full of people. I kinda just enjoyed jumping on the trams and going for a ride too.

For SF: you might add the Maritime Museum and/or the California Academy of Science to your list of possibilities. And, if you're going to be there on a Saturday or Sunday, any big Dim Sum restaurant (check Yelp for a good one; I usually avoid Chinatown and go to the Richmond District instead).
