The Truth as I know It
If there is no God than everything goes and every man for himself. Answer this: do you consider yourself as only the same as an animal or a plant? and if so then why do you NOT feel guilt when you accidently run over a snake or a Possum? BUT if you ran over a 5 year old Child playing in the street you would most likely be devastated. Human life has value because we are made in the image of God. An atheist will say there is no God, therefore there is no right or wrong because morales come from God. So anything goes. But go up to an atheist and punch him in the mouth and all of a sudden the atheist will claim that what you did to him was WRONG. Religion is what causes problems in this World. religion is made by Man so Man can controll Man. The thing I like about Christianity is that it is NOT a religion, instead it is a faith in Christ, and Christ alone. There is only one true God and it is the God of the Bible. The Bible has Never been wrong about prophesy, it predicted events thousands of years before they happened and then the events happened just as the Bible said they would. All spiritual principals that have been practiced that are written in the Bible will produce out comes just as described, everytime. WE have all sinned and will never be accepted by a God that is Holy and perfect (spottless) God is a Just God and the penalty for sin is not only phisical death but also spiritual death and judgement. God did Everyone a Huge favor and became a Man (Christ) walked the face of the earth and NEVER sinned and stood trial for OUR sins and died a horrable death (in our place) in order to give us freedom from judgement and death, (he paid the price in full) All we have to do now is accept the FREE gift of freedom/salvation. To not accept that gift of salvation is to basically tell God that the death of His Son didn''t mean anything what so ever and that you choose to free YOURSELF (which is imposible because you will NEVER be AS GOOD AS GOD) or you will work your way into Heaven by good works (your works will never be as good as Christs work on the cross so you can forget that idea). The only other alternative is to deny the truth which most do and God even said most of us would.

The Truth as I know It
c172guy,
Reports of me being "about dead," have been greatly exaggerated 8^) I''m only 46,but yeah,I''m still handsome 8^) I tell my sons it''s a family curse! ha!ha! I still have much to do on my new set course, free of spiritual deviation. There''s also that lingering desire to circumnavigate.Fair winds!

The Truth as I know It
Actually I do feel guilty when I accidentally hurt an animal!!!! I won''t deny Christ but Jews will and Muslims will say that he is not the son of God but only a prophet. We quickly get into the evil that religion can become. The Taliban believed they were making a religous society that God would approve. Bush thought that the Taliban was evil and should be destroyed. Now the Taliban is destroyed and Afghanistan is the worlds number one producer of heroin. Did the U.S.A. oppose god''s will or do his will??? I confess that I have no idea what God wants and I am afraid of people that claim to know his will.
When we talk about sailboats we can say this design or that is better. If we still disagree we can take the boats out on the water and see who is right. With religion there is no way to know who is right. A humble man would never claim to know the will of god.IMHO. For what it''s worth I believe in religious freedom. You can do as you wish....except maybe if you believe that you should destroy all who don''t believe as you. I''d probably fuss if you tried to force me to go to church every sunday and wednesday. But as long as your religion doesn''t require you to control my freedom let''s all live and let live.

The Truth as I know It
I believe God. He''s always been faithful to His Word. He''s God and He cannot lie. His Word says He''s filled with compassion for us and loves healing us. sometimes doubt, unbelief and fears gets in the way of healing, but if we can hold on to the truth in His book of promises and do not let the devil steal our faith, peace, love, hope, and joy in Him Who is faithful and worthy to be praised, that''s how you get your miricle.
Remember it''s the devil who comes to kill steal and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have LIFE and have it more abundantly. (If you want me to look up chapter and verse for you I will) Jesus paid the price for our healing with His stripes (Isaiah 53:5, 1st Peter 2:25). We should never stop praising Him and thanking Him for that, and worshiping Him, and forgiving those constantly who sin against us all the time, like He''s always forgiving us all the time.
And because I am not ashamed of the Gospel or His name, (on land or at sea),
Father God,
Blessed and Holy is Your name, and I worship You,
I boldly come before Your throne of Grace and Mercy to obtain it of necessity and need according to Your Word in Hebrews 4:16. Let Psalms 30:2, Jeremiah 17:14 and Matthew 8:7 be real in this man''s wife''s and sister''s lives. And be magnified, blessed, praised, honored and extolled in it! You are our healer and the lifter of our heads, our God and King and possess the name above all names, Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah, the Annointed One, the Saviour, the Prince of Peace, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. Healer of broken hearts, restorer of broken spirits, Thank You Jesus for loving us, and healing us, Body, mind and spirit, and Thank You for shedding Your Blood for the remission of sins. And Thank You for Calvary, and Thank You Father for resurrecting Jesus on the third day. And Thank You for Your Sweet Holy Spirit!!! And let this prayer be with power.
In Jesus Name I pray,
A-men
Love,
Brenda

The Truth as I know It
I love sailing, and I hurt a little when I run over animals.
For me, I think the questions are: (1) Is there such a thing as a god, and (2) if so, can we know him, and (3) if so, who is he?
Only Christianity declares that Jesus was, and still is, the I AM who declared His name to Moses, and who said that we should have no other god but Him. I believe that Jesus lived, healed others, raised others from the dead, died and rose again just as the old texts have said.
And, in my understanding, only Christanity declares that all mankind, each and every human being, is naturally at war with God, and that there is nothing we can do to undo the bad things we''ve done or to gain acceptance from God. And only Christianity says that God has already done this for us, in the only acceptable way and at His own personal cost.
Many Jews believe this also, and are often called Messianic Jews. They are Jewish believers in Jesus, the Jewish Messiah.
As for me, I believe because I have tasted Him and seen that He is good. I would recommend that everyone do as Stede suggested in his original post, and see for yourself.

I''m pretty sure I would be admonished if I started a thread about cars on this BBS, as I would be correctly reminded that this is a forum for discussion of sailing topics. Likewise, religion is not a sailing topic.
Whether you believe or don''t is a personal decision and we should respect it, even if we disagree with it. However, using a forum that is intended for discussions related to sailing topics for the purpose of discussing faith (or any other non-sailing topic) is inappropriate, at best. I think we should get back to the topics directly related to sailing, and keep religion (and all other non-sailing topics) out of it.

To take God out of sailing would mean "sad sails" for me, and very dangerous.

I''m not saying that you should sail without God. You can sail with as many gods as you think you''ll need - that''s not the point.
How would you like me talking about home repair on this BBS? Chances are that it would not be considered appropriate. I contend that religion is not an appropriate topic on this BBS. If you feel the need to pontificate - do so on a BBS specifically setup for those topics.

ever been out on a small boat in a big strom, if you have you know religion has it''s place on a sailboat and therefore is a part of this forum. If you don''t like what''s TV turn the channel.

I don''t come to this BBS to read about religion. If I wanted to do that, I''d go to a religious BBS. Likewise, I wouldn''t go to a religious BBS to read about or discuss sailing.
BTW, I''ve been out in a hurricane on a destroyer, and I''ve been in a few gales on it and on a sailboat. In every case, I didn''t need god. For me, (and probably others) the topic of religion belongs on a religious BBS and not on a sailing BBS.
