It was recommended to me by a guy with many miles open ocean on one to definitely cover the windows, all six. He used the factory fiberglass covers but recommended 3/4 plywood, through bolted as a reasonable substitute. I saw the factory covers once on a boat, back in the 70's, as I remember they weren't a good look or finish, but memories fade.If you plan on coastal duck and cover, you probably can get away with not covering... About a month ago, went out in one of those wind against current things we sometimes get in the Narrows and did everything wrong on purpose. Water definitely found it's way to the forward windows. Not hard, but then it was only 31/2 knots and 25mph, probably 3', far from severe. I will definitely install some before we head to Alaska. We are located on Harstine Island, and Alice B. is moored at Jarrell's Cove Marina, which if you're in the area, is an unsecured marina. Ironically, we bought her in Anacortes last Fall.

I have put an offer (if accepted) on a Hardin 45 and for awhile will be sailing it in the gulf until I finish up grading the electronics, they are from the last century and really need to be replaced. Loran C, a 12 channel VHF and so forth. So it will about 20% above the price I want to pay in order to completly outfitting the boat. But I will take it out and exercise as I do the refit.

BTW I find that the boat I have my eye on is a very beautiful sweet looking boat.

sea trial & survey

Didn't get any pics of her sailing and the winds where light... But she wonderfully under sail
The surveyor found many problems, but that was to be expected. Some I can take care of myself and others will have to be handled by technicans.

The sad thing is that this site won't upload my pictures... Drat--it!

Just about have all of the electronics changed out. Need a sea trial to adjust the Auto pilot. And then I can really start moving the Rapture around.
Found a berth for her at South Shore Harbor Marina, New Orleans, On Lake Ponchatrain. The ship canal is blocked because they are rebuilding the lock there, so when I go offshore, will be using the scenic route of Lake Borgne to get on the Ocean... well the Gulf of Mexico at least.

Re: How about a Hardin 45 Thread

Repairs, repairs and more repairs.... Finally the Rapture is almost up to the standard that is required for an easy life...
She is a live aboard and comfortable... so there!! for all of you people who have those rolly fast boats.

Plus she can out sail any house or apartment out there...

Re: How about a Hardin 45 Thread

SV Maracucha is ging for a haul out. New thru hulls, bottom job and zincs. We are considering a new paint look for the topsides, an all blue hull. Only cosmetic stuff I know, but figure she would look great. Anyone know of a Hardin who changed the white to blue? I can find no photos.
