Fuel Tank
Anyone have any suggestions to clean out a fuel tank without removing it. Just removed about 3 gallons of bad fuel. It's been sitting in there for about 10 years. I'm about 2 weeks from launching and really don't want to remove the tank at this point. I'm guessing it's not a good idea to remove the old fuel and just fill it with new. Any feed back will be appreciated.

Re: Fuel Tank
replace the tank if it's metal because it's not a matter of if it will fail.. it's just when.. and most often it's when your not expecting it. We replaced mine and it was less the $100 for a moeller polyethylene tank. Only way to clean you old tank is to cut a access hole and make or buy a plate to cover it. Still better to replace old tanks in just about every case.

Re: Fuel Tank
(I'm assuming that your P30 has the original A4 and tank.)
P30s came with monel fuel tanks that will outlive us all. Don't replace it. You can't remove it without pulling the A4. That's a fairly big job (I did it on my P30), so you'll have to try cleaning it out through the fill hose. Try a solvent, maybe acetone? Most importantly, change the fuel filter(s) early and often until you have confidence that the crud is gone.

The bottom of your tank could look like this picture.
At least pump it out as best you can and then try some volatile thinners as Jeff suggests (lacquer thinner, acetone).

Ka-ching! d'oh! That's right! The big Ag lobby only pays me when I don't post this picture.

Ever get that feeling of deja vu?

Re: Fuel Tank
Thanks Jeff, I already did that. Used Gumout, tank wasn't as bad as I tought it would be. The fuel looked nothing like CalebD's pic. Boat is being launched on July 3rd. Can't wait to get her on the water again. Thank you all for your suggestions and advice.

Diesel Fuel Tank Replacement Cal 2-29

Anyone have info on availability of replacement tanks or a good generic one for this boat? Metal or plastic? I'm planing to buy this boat and anticipating replacement of a tank with much surface rust.
