New 1974 Pearson 30 owner

Hi mates. Bofus here from lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. My wife and I just adopted a 1974 Pearson 30, hull #234. Glad to be aboard.

Welcome to Sailnet, and congrats on your P30. You'll have a blast with her; I did with mine!

Your post does have me wondering about hull numbers, though. Mine was a 1973, and I thought she was #415 (which doesn't fit with your '74 being #234). I could certainly be wrong about mine, as I think we assumed that the number on our sails was our hull number.

Not that it's a big deal either way, but does anybody know what hull numbers were produced in what years? I know '73 and '74 were the peak years for production, and over 1,000 of these great boats were built.

there was some cross over of hull#s for which year, (For ex: #101 was a '72, but #173 was a '71) but I dont recall the details of why that occurred. Pearson Serial Number Decoding
Ive seen '73s from #331 to #497. I had seen #234 as a '72 named "ViewPoint" in the New England PHRF valid list - dont recall from where I got the year data, however, possibly the old sailnet list.

its pretty much anecdotal, however, she is what she is now.

mine is #393 and is a 1973.

Congrats on the purchase. Winnipesaukee is a great lake to sail on. I bought a '74 P30 (#517) last summer in Annapolis, MD. They are very solid boats and do well in light and heavy air. If you ever decied to sail off the coast it will do well there also. Let us know if you have any questions.

Smosher,

How long have you been in Salem? I used to live up there and crewed on the Fame as well as the Friendship. It was about 5 years ago.

Hull #940 in Beverly MA. It's a '77 I've owned since 1990. Figured I'd keep it for 5 or 10 years, but never came up with a reason to move on or found a boat I wanted more.

1973 Hull # 482. Planning on sailing it south to the Bahamas and maybe even the Caribbean this fall. Boat is located on the Piscataqua River. Boat is currently on the hard getting a new rudder bushing and having bottom painted.
