raw water intake strainer

I need to install a raw water strainer for my A4 on my P30. I've looked at what is available at Defender -- the traditional ones are brass, but there is what looks to be a perfectly fine plastic one for a third of the cost. Has anyone had any experience with the plastic one? Does it hold up as well as the heavier duty brass?
