I'm close to buying a 1976 P30, #827. The surveyor is doing his thing today and if there are no show stoppers, I'll be a proud new captain. I'm very excited and I sure hope this adventure lives up to my expectations. Wish me luck! I'm sure I'll be back with lots of questions...

First question, I can't send PMs yet, so I'll ask here:

How do I remove the teak handrails from the cabin roof (the exterior ones) ? I'd like to remove and refinish mine. How do they come off?

You have to take them off from inside the cabin. The cabin below-decks handrails match up to the above-deck hand rails. Since the below-deck hand rails are shorter, there are screws through the cabin top for the remaining length of the above-deck handrails.

Can you take a close up of your dorade? I would like to add some to my boat and I was wondering where to put them and how they would look.

Here's another problem that I need to repair. This stanchion was torqued hard by someone falling overboard (on the hard :eek: ) It's wobbly now. Are these stanchions through bolted? Backed? Assuming I can get to the back side, is that the best way to attack this?

They are through bolted, but the factory did not back them. When you do fix it, definitely back the bolts and also pot the holes the bolts go through. Check out MaineSail's posts and website on how to do this.

You can get to the backside of all the stanchions. Some more easily than others.
