Red face Friday Harbor to Shilshole Marina...wifi?

Hi All!

Can anyone suggest the best route from Friday Harbor to Shilshole Marina that has stop overs with WiFi?

We're picking up our new boat in Sidney, checking it in at Friday Harbor and making our way down to Shilshole Marina to get the wifi/cell stick installed on the boat.

In the meantime...we need to work from the boat during the trip down. :P

We're thinking Deception Pass is the best way to go and plan on motoring (unless there's wind!) for 4 or 5 hours hours a day at 4.5 knots. We have an Aloha 32 and plan to leave later this week. We'd love to take our time and don't mind going out of our way if it means we can get a good internet connection.

Any suggestion on where to find info on which harbors have wifi? We just realized our cruising guide was printed in 2005...a little out of date for such technologies.

Thanks a bunch in advance! We're new to the sailing community and PNW and appreciate the wisdom of Sailnet members so much!

I'm in Friday harbor right how and it has wifi.

You'll have to choose to either go one of three ways.

Friday harbor to anacortes to la Conner to Everett to seattle.

Friday harbor to James island(no wifi) through deception pass to oak harbor to seattle.

Or

Friday harbor to port townsend(36 miles) to Kingston or poulsbo seattle.

You can add as many extra stops in as you'd like. Those are just the three ways from here to seattle. I like port townsend on the west side of whidbey best and there are plenty of places in between.

Swinomish Channel looks like an interesting route. Any tips about the current? Our cruising guide just says to respect it.

La Conner sounds really neat!

We figure the more protected route will be better for us since we'll be getting used to our new boat.

Thanks!

I haven't been down the swinomish. I know that the current gets strong in there but I've heard there is a delay in which direction the current travels so ill try to find out. I was meaning I anyways. In thinking I might go to la Conner.

I just ran into a guy, a drunk guy however so take in for what it's worth who wan aground in there. I think it gets windy and shallow. It's 12 miles long.

My son and I ran the 'ditch' in his new-to-him boat entirely in the dark some years ago.. it was no problem. The bigger challenge is the shallows and mudflats at either entrance. Pay attention to the markers and your charts.

Re: Friday Harbor to Shilshole Marina...wifi?

With this weather and the currents I'd just shoot out Cattle Pass on the ebb and head for Pt. Townsend. If you time it right you can pick up the flood and be in PT easily in a day and there is great WIFI at Pt. Wilson marina. From there you could go to Kingston which also has WIFI. Both are great places to stop with good restaurants etc. Shilshole is just a short hop from Kingston. Have a great trip on the new boat!

That's the route I recommend too.

Friday harbor to port townsend to Kingston to shithole. The swinomish will take alot longer. I mean. I'm not sure how long you want to make this trip. You can take as long as you want, but if you want the most scenic, and fastest, go as described.

Re: Friday Harbor to Shilshole Marina...wifi?

N&N- I see they are calling for some south winds later in the week. Keep an eye on the forecast, and winds at Smith Is. prior to departure. 20 kts against the flood wouldn't be fun, 10 kts no problem for you.
