Saturday's wind event was impressive, though fortunately short lived here in Vancouver. Haven't heard of any on-the-water issues beyond people hunkering down in marinas and running around doubling mooring lines and bracing docks themselves. The Saturna station logged 60knot+ gusts near noon. Since then the rain's set in and it's been blowing steady SE breezes into the high 20s. Milder today.
Forecast to improve later this week.. just in time for our Labour Day cruise to Newcastle!
Faster, I'll shout you a beer at the dingy dock.Or a road trip thru beautiful downtown Nanaimo? We booked into Tofino:hot springs and storm watch kind of holiday For the29/30 th .Kinda misjudged the onset of big winds but might yet see some reasonable surf from the safety of a hotel balcony.
I was coming down from Desolation Sound a couple days after the big storm. Environment Canada announced water spout alerts after spotting one in the southern Strait of Georgia. Yikes! Malaspina Strait was a nice downwind sail. No twisters.
We were out that same day.. nothing exciting weather-wise, but we did see a small pod of Orcas, including a calf just off Keats Island.
