hello from steve

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself to folks on the PNW forum, since I'm new to the area and looking to do a lot of sailing in the Seattle area. Although not a total newcomer to Seattle (lived here before), I only recently moved back to the area, and I've been doing lots of sailing, hope to do even more.

I got back into sailing last September, when I was staying in an apartment near the Center for Wooden Boats and tried taking a few boats out. Although I had been on sailboats before, I had no experience solo-ing a boat, and CWB has great boats for just getting your feet wet on basic maneuvers without, um, getting the rest of you wet.

This summer I've found lots of other great opportunities, mostly through the Puget Sound Sailing Group. I've done a few overnight sails to points west and north of Seattle, and I've also done some really, really fun sailing on Flying Juniors at Sand Point, including my first small-boat racing tonight. Although we weren't very competitive tonight, we were close enough to the pack to get the kind of compressed learning experience that only racing can provide.

That's all for now, just wanted to say hi.

Welcome to Sailnet Steve Good job this weekend as well. You'll meet some really good folks on here. Glad to see you guys made it out on the water today - those were some decent winds at least at the marina...

Yep, the winds were pretty nice on Lake Washington, and the weather was fantastic. Winds were a little light, but that's probably a good thing for first time racing. We made every mistake in the book--crossed the starting line too early, got squeezed out rounding the mark, spent too long tacking down the finish line, etc.--but we were moving the whole time, no collisions, no capsizes.
