It is still not a good way to end a race. NO ONE wants the finish decided in a court room if you will.

Honestly - I do not see how they tossed it out. If everyone started the same time its simple math and the better thing to do. Tossing out just showed laziness. But at least - we will sometime soon, get the times for us divs that are all OCS. Which is important for me and my crew as we are analysing the tactics we used and need the validation or proof that we either ran a great race or we pinched to much and / or didn't continually tack to get max speed at all times.
As for Cheryls comment -

she is entitled as anyone is about my posts. I am not from Seattle and one thing I have learned in business - you want change, be vocal - and consistent in the message. I don't do the play over "oh well" just to appease others that just roll with the flow and somehow think that RCs are appointed overseers over the sport.
We all have a voice. And even with my discussion with you guys - it has been consistent and my interest in change is because I am one of those that would not do the sport if I was not lucky enough to "lemming" or have experience onboard.
And this goes back to the VHF and overall tone I have.
You guys know that I try to be as laid back as possible - my crew probably better. VHF use may not be required by the rules (and sure are alot of them for a show up and race event), and I agree it should not be used exclusively. However, unless at least on the back channel - if we are not voicing this (or not if anyone reading is the type that thinks VHF is a insult to racing) then it will never be changed.
In an upcoming new race series that I am privledged to be part of the loop in shaping, as well as private emails to various RCs / Series Organizers / Chairs... its input they want and willing to work with. Matter of fact, had it not been the dialogue that I had privatedly with Dave (chair of the SSS) - I would of not particpated in the upcoming races of the series.
Communication is the key, and backwinding because others think you are whiner or a pre-madonna....will always get you exactly what you what we all do not want to see.
We do pay to play.
Between the pHRF renewals we pay for just to be allowed to fill an entry and the individual races we pay to participate in, plus having to be affiliated with some club (in some cases)... - they need us as much as we need them.
It is no secret that the drop in racing is present and a very good reason is that alot of the common sense of racing for fun is "court-room" and not common sense.
Vashon left a bad taste in my mouth - and common sense was not applied during any phase of handling the fiasco. Again, I made the CHOICE - to go the extremes, and expected the RC to do the at least the minimal.
To finally have a race that we not only would of finished and did well in - after every other DNF (and that is my goal to at least finish)... this was simply as disappointing as all get out - in every shape and form.
Call my attention to this issue(s) whatever anyone would like.
I have always volunteered and stated I would be part of the solution (and have with you guys - as well in my backend discussions). It really, is not that hard when you know what is being addressed and the likes - the original intent of the sport and what we expect to get out of this, can be satisfied.
It is no longer he year 1900 and simply a handshake and race. We have tools that can be used and reliance simply on flags is no longer a bare minimum - no matter how much one wants to recite the rules. We all want more out on the water to compete with and if this trend was to continue (and from what I am privy to - things will be changing) - everyone would certainly lose.
It takes a great amount of time to pull these events together, from the participants scrambling for crew and making their boat race friendly (and getting there) to the clubs RC's promoting and handling the events. Prepareness and execution is the key - and not just relying on "oh whatever"...
Marty, this is not directed as a personal bite towards you or Cheryl - you know I put myself where my mouth is. I think overall if RCs / Clubs worked more with us enrolling into the racing events we play in - we'd have great growth in the sport and one that is self sustaining.
Standardizing the VHF as a tool to announce the race starts and communicating with the fleet should be done. We are required by the pHRF rules to have one - and no reason that it should be used solely by an RC to make an insulting remark. It is a tool - not the primary one - but anyone can operate it...
That is my stand and I am not changing from it. I may be a sole voice in print - many others that are afraid of confrontation or have experienced what I have (on your boat and mine) - share exactly what I express. Difference is - I am not being just a publicly loud mouth about it - I am using private channels to see how how I can help them.
Back to the Madonna comment - howd ya know I had a set of those bullet brassieres hanging in my playroom!

Take my post for what it is worth - its honest and direct.
