West Coast Van Is: Specific questions

Hi

have a few initial specific questions about going down west coast vancouver island. have read all of the usual guides and reviewed the charts but trying to complete my "due diligence". thanks in advance for info. (jackdale, you seem to be the resident expert on these things?)

1. indirect route around (south of) nawitti bar - can it really be done irrespective of the state of current at the bar?

2. direct route over nawitti bar - on neap tides with lighter winds can you cheat a bit more and safely cross a little more before or after slack?

3. rounding cape scott: how bad are the tide rips that are mentioned in the guides & on the chart? they mention following the 20 fathom contour - will this avoid most of it? we're planning on going around neap tides - i assume this will significantly reduce these issues? is it worth doddling b/w nawitti bar and cape scott to time slack at cape scott?

4. Cape cook - any recommendations regarding rounding, specifically what do you consider to be "no-go" weather conditions?

5. Is Thasis inlet a way to avoid bad weather on the coast or are the inflow/outflow winds to be avoided?

6. Is the approach to sea otter cover untenable if the weather deteriorates?

any-hoo, sorry for the barage of questions but, as usual, any insight is helpful.

cheers
