Prop rope cutter

I am considering installing a Spurs prop rope cutter on my PSC 34, 1998. Inorder to do this I will need to add a spacer at the shaft coupler inorder to push the prop shaft out to get the rope cutter between the prop and the cutless. Right now the space in about one inch and I will need a minimum of about 1/4 inch. Has anyone done this? Is this a good idea?
