PSC 31 Portlight Screens

On March 18, 2009 Bill Day from Crusader Yacht Sales in Annapolis returned my email inquiry and indicated the original manufacturer was Mark Plastics (951) 735-7705. Mark charges $18.00 for the large port screen and $15.00 for the smaller. We checked measurements on the land line and his description of the plastic frame was right on. He is sending me a set to try out and if ok, I will replace all screens on my PSC 31.

Received the sreens from Mark Plastics. Packaged very well. These screens are an exact copy of the original PSC equipment and were exactly what I wanted, especially because I lack the time to make same. Kudoes to Bill Day and Mark Plastics!

port lite screens

I have made new screens for my 37 by using both thin plastic and wood and gluing the screen material between the two pieces. make them oversize and then cut to finish with a dremal tool before installing. you can select any type of screen material you want.

After learning what the cost of Beckson replacement screen would cost...$18.00 each, I did it myself, using the old frames. It was so easy, but I am not familiar with yours, but what I did...
  • Purchased screen material & glue from hardware store
  • Removed the rubber gasket from the port which exposed the plastic frame for the screen.
  • Removed the screen, cleaned the frame.
  • Glued screen material to the top only of each frame and let it dry.
  • Then stretched the screen to the opposite side and clamped and glued
  • Repeated on the remaining two sides.
Looks great, just like the replacement screen, at a cost of about $10.00 total
I was thinking about doing exactly the same but wasn't sure it would work..now I know - thanks!

Do you want to be the master of cheap yet functional portlight screens? If so, go to a craft store like "Michaels" and buy the needlepoint backing matrix that sells for 50 cents to one dollar and comes in white, beige or green. Cut them to fit and buy some spares. Take care and joy, Aythya crew

Sounds like the easiest way to go.
