Mast Paint

I'm doing some touch up work on the mast, scraping off some corrosion and re-priming and painting.

I have a tiny amount of paint labelled "eggshell white," I'm assuming that this is the mast paint. I have some others for the deck and the topsides.

The question is, does anyone know what type of paint this is, polyurethane, epoxy, etc. and if there is a comparable and compatible product out there (US Paint, Interlux, etc.) and if so, what part number?

Thanks,
Ryan

Uh, does it say anything else on it other than just "egg-shell"? Do we have any indication that this is not something left over from last year's repaint of the dining room at home? (g)

There were three sets of paint, one was the deck, one was the hull, and one was the "eggshell white" The owner said the mast paint was in there, so I can only deduce that that is it. I could be wrong, but that's all the information I have to work with at the moment. It looks to be a two part paint.

Give the PO a call and confirm which is the mast paint. Once it's up, you'll have a hell of a time painting the mast from a bosuns chair.

Yeah, I got the paint and the specs, its a two part polyurethane, I'm just not sure what aftermarket prodcuct is similar.

I agree that I don't want to do any of this from a bosun's chair.

While the mast is down, take pictures and measurements of all the mast head gear. Also, you should double check the nav lights and write down what bulbs you need to keep on hand for spares. Maybe hit all the moving parts and sail track with some Sail Kote or similar.

Awlgrip makes an eggshell white and it is a 2 part...my guess is that is it.

Sapper,

That's all in the plan. Luckily, the prev. owner still has all the original documentation from the factory with parts lists on bulbs, etc. very good stuff.

I've got two huge cans of McLube ready for the task.

Camraderie,

I think that you're right, its got to be close. I would imagine that the factory would have been buying something commercially available such as Awlgrip.

Thanks,
