PSC 31 Measurement for Dinghy on Deck

Could someone give me the length from the front of the mast to the back of the staysail roller furler. If it is 7 1/2 feet or more then this boat is a serious candidate for me as it can store my 9' Caribe RIB on deck. Otherwise?

David...in the brochure...the J of the headsail seems to be 14' which would indicate your 7.5' need is OK. You may get a better answer from an owner though. See pg. e of the brochure and blow it up big.

David, I don't have the exact measurement handy, but it should be well over 7.5 feet.

Here is a (lousy) photo of an 8' Dyer dinghy on the foredeck. This particular PSC 31 does not appear to have the forestay rigged, but we have the same mast pulpits (which extend forward of the mast) and the same dinghy and we can put the dinghy on deck without covering the deckplate for the forestay.



However, it can get a bit awkward with the dinghy on the foredeck.

Also, if you like the boat, I wouldn't let the dinghy drive the decision. There are other dinghy solutions available...

No, I am not going to let the dinghy drive the decision, but it is an important factor. The boat I am considering has a roller furler staysail. I can always remove the roller furler, stow the inner stay and sail the boat as a sloop. But having owned an Island Packet, I like the roller furling staysail for its heavy weather utility and would prefer to be able to stow my 9' Carribe and use the staysail.

I measured my PS31: it's about 10'6" frpm the front of the mast to the back of the deckplate which anchors the staysail stay. I also have the "granny bars", so to clear these as well you would reduce that distance by about 21".
