ps37 alternator belt size?

I am trying to confirm the correct size for the alternator belt on my 1983 PS37 with the original Universal 5432 engine and Motorola alternator.
Despite several attempts to check the alternator alignment, I still chew through belts like crazy, so I think I still have an alignment issue.
The previous owner told me the belt should be 43013 (43 inches long, 13/32 wide). These days all the belts in the autoparts stores seem to be metric, and as the engine is Japanese, you would think the original would be specified as metric too?

Paul:

I feel for ya. I've been trying to figure out what size my Yanmar takes all season.

But the Gates website for your 1983 Universal seems to confirm the 43" size for your Universal as Product ID 8701 4340.

Ted,
thanks for the pointer. Looks like it confirms my original data, but it also gives me the metric size, so I'll get a new belt and try (yet again...) to align the alternator before I install it.
