Microwave on the PSC 34
We are thinking about added a microwave to our boat but really can't decide the best way to do it. Has anyone added a built in microwave to their 34 and if so where did you decide to put it and what model did you install?

Our boat had a microwave installed when we bought it. It's on a shelf above the sinks. The AC is strung from the outlet near the icebox inside the cabinet above the stove, through a hole into the trash bin area, then behind the sinks and up the vertical s/s grab bar and onto the shelf. It's a little Sanyo. You would probably want to buy the microwave before installing the shelf. Our install looks factory with teak trim, etc. One end of the shelf sits on a teak rail at the cabin side with three screws into the whiteboard. The other end attaches to a stainless bracket welded to the s/s grab bar.

You know, I was thinking of replacing the pull out dish holding droor with a microwave because I find that droor is not quite large enough to hold standard size dishes, and they tend to get stuck making it difficult to reopen the droor once it has been closed. Granted, only a small MW would fit in there, but I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has tried that approach.

The previous owner of our 34 did remove the dish rack door and modified the space to install a small microwave unit. Worked out quite well and we use it whenever plugged in to shore power. We don't have an inverter and besides, it's an amp hungary device that would pull down your batteries pretty quick.
Carl, Pre hurricane Ike I was building a teak cabinet above the galley sink to match the millwork of the interior of our 37. It's about half finished. It will hold a microwave and dish storage. I will have the factory make the doors as they have done before. Our yacht club harbor was destroyed in Ike but I moved the boat to a protected harbor with floating docks. Kindred Spirit is fine but my project is on hold while we rebuild our home. Should be back in the house by March and hope to have the project done by spring sailing season.
