Thanks for the compliments (even though I suppose I was rather shamelessly fishing!)
Ted - yes the dorade vent is a great natural fish-eye reflector. I took a bunch of photos with it before even thinking to wipe off the salt spray. It was the only way my little waterproof camera could get a shot ot the twin jibs. My previous camera had a wide-angle attachment that I really miss. 2008 return-trip crewmember Paul Carson had a very nice SLR-style camera with real lenses and filters, and he took some spectacular shots. I'm going to be asking him for advice, but I'm afraid you can't buy talent!
It's nice to see the old PSC mailing list gang is still around. I also posted to the Yahoo group, and have received a few replies there too. I don't mind checking both places but it would be nice to have the PSC activity consolidated. Is there a concensus that Sailnet is now the place?
VALIS has a few more miles on her now, but she still spends too much time in the slip. I'm very likely going to compete in the 2010 Pacific Cup, and in 2009 we're thinking about bashing up the coast from San Francisco to Seattle/Vancouver/San Juan Islands. We would stay there for a few weeks than head back home. Along the way we might join the "Oregon Offshore" race from the Columbia River to Vancouver, and might do the Swiftsure race while we're visiting Vancouver. Or we might just skip the races and cruise.
Then again, I've got this quick six-month South Pacific itinerary all worked out -- it's just a matter of wanting to be away from home and family for that long (they would fly out and join me along the way, but it is still a huge chunk of time to be gone.) Mind you, I'm not complaining!
