Radome above or below Inner forestay

Trying to determine whether or not to put my 18" radome above or below the attatch point for the inner forestay on my PSC 34' cutter.
I'm not asking the question based on range but more about practicality of positioning. If below does the Radome present lots of problems with the Staysail? Or any drawbacks from putting it above the spreaders which I think might be a little high ?

Thanks,
Keith

Bill,
My guess is that you would need to mount it a good 2 feet below the inner to clear the inner. Does it seem too low in any way? Does it interfere with the staysail?

Keith,
We mounted our 18" dome below the attachment point for the inner forestay. No problems with staysail interfering with unit. The other plus is keeping the weight of the dome low on the mast.

Once in a while I'll get interference with the radar - but it's pretty rare and easy to deal with. (I get much more grief from the life-raft at the front of the mast fouling staysail sheets and the like!)

Perhaps more important than the location of the radar unit are the details of its installation (mine is above the staysail stay). In my case the cable was free dropped in the mast and clangs from side to side when the boat rocks - irritating. When the cable was pressed through the support cup at the bottom of the mast, through the hole in the deck, and into the cable passage in the compression post, it destroyed the water seal around the existing mast wiring allowing rain water to wet and ultimately rot the oak compression post and the plywood flooring below it necessitating their replacement - expensive.
