Steering cable play on 31
 
I am having to tighten the steeringcables on my 31 about every 500nm. I have checked the cableclamps for slippage, and made sure the adjusting nuts on the eyebolts at the steering quadrant (the idler pulleys are not adjustable on this 31) are extratight, but keep getting play after a while. This play is also overworking the autopilot.
Am I missing something? I cannot believe that the steeringcable could possibly be stretching that much!? :confused:
How often do you have to tighten your cables?

As risk of stating the obvious, have you tried to replace your old cables?

Assuming they are stainless steel cables, the amount of stretching should
be a fraction of an inch, which I'm guess you've long ago exceeded.

The cables are less than 2years old and I have tightened each side approx. 1/2 " in the last 2800nm (1 year). However, the amount of adjustment needed gets less everytime. Initial stretch of cables? Cables made in $#@& ? How often should they be replaced?
