hard doger

pc37howard ,i also went to the factory and saw the hard doger , well built and seems easy to install. it would hold any thing you would need to put on top of it ,as long as the boom would pass by it dont forget it has two lights in it red and white.

Thumper took a few more pictures and sent them to me. The canvas and windows were in the process of being installed. Would like to see a few more pictures once everything is installed, if you get a chance.

Thanks

Any idea if this is solely for the 37? Would it fit any of the other models both past and present?

I finally remembered to take my camera with me. These shots are from this past Saturday evening down near Bath, NC. I do like the dodger setup. It's easy to work the traveler through two eyelets in the windshield and seems really sturdy and light.

Yes, they can. Here's one fitted to a 40 footer.

Smile Fiberglass dodger built by "Thumper" @ Pacific Seacraft

I had a fiberglass dodger built by Thumper at Pacific Seacraft, North Carolina.

We exchenged emails for a few months last winter discussing designs and options...He built my dodger and shipped it out to Seattle via surface transport.

Words cannot fully express how satified I am with the finished product.

Installation took about 5 hours (well that's how long it took me to drill the first hole...I measured several times ).

Thumper delivered a first class dodger that surely enhances the lines of my 37.

Bill Crealock's legacy is in good hands...he would have been proud.

See attached photo.

The sunbrella sides and bimini were built by Iverson's Desgin in Olympia, WA.

Thank you very much for sharing the photos! Looks great and a very viable option.

A few questions since this looks like something I would seriously consider for my PSC 37. My husband is 6'6. Would your Bimini allow my husband to stand up under it? Anything you would change now that you have worked with it for a bit?

Not sure who you're asking, but re the dodgers (as opposed to biminis), I'd say as along as he knows where the top is he shouldn't have a problem. I even bump my head occasionally and I'm not quite 6'. The best thing about the dodger, besides its intended purpose, is the grab rail. It's so sturdy that I even run my jack line through the handle. This helps me keep the line accessible and assuages my fear of the jack line stretching should the unthinkable happen and I get tossed overboard.

Attached photo was Saturday in The Pamlico. 65 degrees and 15 knots. Where was everyone?

Reply to Seacurves re:PSC Dodger

I'm 6-ft and my wife is 5'4" so clearance and visibility forward over the dodger were two design constraints we had in mind.

We built the dodger low enough for my wife to look out over the dodger when standing on a 2 1/2" thick pad. I think the lower dodger looks better then some that have been built very tall. When I climb out of the cabin I have to bend down so my head clears the dodger but I had to do that anyway with our lod dodger.

Clearance under our bimini is about 6'1" so I can stand up without bending. We had to have our mains'l re-cut so the boom clears the bimini. We had about 6" removed from the aft end (clew) and that tapered up to 0" at the tack. Our sail maker said this is a common request they get and it did the job to provide clearance below the boom for the bimini. If your tallest crewmember is 6'4" I'd recommend that you have your sail maker take measurements so the boom clears his head and the bimini. It just might save him a really bad headache too when you accidentally jib.

Regards

Craig

Thanks for the additional tips! Since both my husband and I are tall your comments lead me to skip the bimini piece and just go with the dodger and curtain, plus maybe a cockpit awning. The hard dodger just looks great.
