Props shouldn't need anti-sieze, they aren't designed to have anything between the bore surface and the shaft and I find it hard to believe PYI suggested that to you. But what do I know? I'm only a Max Prop dealer.

I agree, I find it hard to believe Fred would allow his tech support guys to say that. Dissimilar metals in some anti-seizes, copper, aluminum, graphite etc. could also cause galvanic issues too. Taper fits do not need lubes and it does not help it come off any easier because of the nature of the fit.. Sounds to me like the prop was never lap fit to the shaft which is a critical step in fitting a prop to a shaft...

As I mentioned before, with a PROPERLY fit prop it will not come off easily or with a hammer and should not. If it does, it was either not installed properly or was not lap fit to the shaft. Lap fitting provides as close to 100% taper to taper interface as possible..

Don't leave me hanging like this!

Also very odd that PYI tech support would advise antiseize...

That is certainly my easiest option...I just thought it would be easier and less messy to take it home and do it. Had no idea it would require new tools.

Pulling prop

One word of advice, learned the hard way,if you elect to use a prop puller which is the only way to remove a properly installed prop- LEAVE THE NUT ON THE END OF THE SHAFT,as you tighten the puller. When the prop comes loose you will be glad the nut is in place on the shaft. No need to ask how I learned this.

Don't remove the nut

I read this advice elsewhere on the web in a "prop maintanance" article.
