Groco strainers

I have always used the Monel or 316 stainless baskets in my Groco strainers. Here in Houston Blue Water Ship Stores has closed MOAN. West Marine does not stock these any longer. I went to Blackburns today and they raped me but had them in stock. Has anyone used the "Cheap" plastic baskets that crack if you squeze then with success? Doug Griffith PSC 37 # 249 Kindred Spirit.

When I bought the boat in 2004 there was a metal basket in the Groco raw water strainer. The punched metal side was corroded away near the bottom. I laced it back together with stainless wire and saved it as a spare replacing it with a Groco white plastic strainer with a black handle. The strainer itself has been fine, but the handle has now broken on one side. Since the handle pushes the basket down in the strainer, I am not completely happy with it, but it is the one I am using.
