I have (ABI?) quick release on inner stay, when river sailing, I go into sloop mode, best of both worlds.

I was looking for a quick release lever recently and discovered that ABI no longer makes them. CSJ makes them but only small ones with a 1/4" pin.
What I did was use a double toggle turnbuckle with a fast pin on a lanyard for the top. To remove the stay, you can take a few turns off the turnbuckle, pull the fast pin and then take the stay aft to the rail and it will be short enough to not drag on the deck. You can leave the turnbuckle on the foredeck if it's secured with a bungee or cord. The marine eye on the end of the wire can be secured to the rail with a shackle on a strong bungee as well.

Knotty,

That sounds clever. Got any photos?

I was surprised that ABI's was no longer available, but poking around I found this which confirms:

I didn't take any pictures of the set up before the boat left, but it's pretty simple.
Take one of these.

use one of these with a short lanyard made of 1/16" vinyl coated wire attached to the t-bolt (to keep from losing it) for the top

It's better if the fast pin is extra long to give you something to hold onto for tightening and loosening.
Swage a marine eye or attach one of these to the end of the wire

and there you have it.

inner forestay

My rigger shortened the inner forestay and added a Wichard "adjuster". I used the one with a pump handle rather than the roller, to save expense.

He also shorened the stay further and created a removable flat stainless steel extension (about a foot long), so that the stay can be clipped to the aluminum toe rail with no slack.

He was opposed to one of those coach roof mounted tracks to bent the stay and take up the slack.

To deploy, I attach the metal bar to the deck, and the end of the adjuster to the metal bar; the handle is then used to adjust the tension of stay.

I would add that this is a very expensive solution to the problem. I am not necessarily advocating this approach as superior to any of the others that have been mentioned.

Last year at the Annapolis Boat Show, the PSC 34 on display had a removable staysail stay. In addition to the quick release mechanism, I really liked how they stowed the stay. It's hard to see in the pictures, but the stay ran through a small cradle attached to the mast pulpit bar and then clipped onto it's own deck fitting. It kept the stay secure, mostly out of the way and prevented kinking.

Thumbs up stay sail quick release

As the owner of Anam Cara, I would like to add that this modification has worked extremely well. We usually sail her as a sloop but the staysail is up in minutes. We were amazed at how Steve Brodie and his team were able to find solutions to make this the perfect cruiser for us.
