We were in the same predicament this last spring and strongly considered the Lavac. We ran into problems with the vacuum pump placement and finally gave up in favor of a new Groco. In retrospect it was a good choice - no mods to the boat, just bolt it in. The new head works perfectly and I expect we'll get 20 years out of this one also.

Good luck,
Sam

Sam, that's the conclusion I finally came to as well. I was going to go ahead and rebuild mine and try to get another couple of years out of it, but I got such a good price on a new one yesterday that I ordered it.

John,

You have made a wise decision. While WINDFLOWER, my 37 was at the Pacific Seacraft factory in Washington for a refit, Vic completely rebuilt my Groco. Everything available was replaced. The toilet looked great! One problem, it would not stop leaking. Vic did extensive research on the problem and found that some parts had morphed into different materials through the years. The materials used today give a better seal and mixing the old with the new is "iffy". Anyway, I ultimately had the factory install a new Groco I supplied from West Marine/Port Supply. It was pricey but considering the alternative, the price was worth my next 20 years of no hassles. I hope.

The new Groco KH is installed and all the plumbing replaced. Hopefully it will outlast me.

Larry, I bought it from West Marine. I compared my discounted price at Fisheries Supply, Defender and West. The prices varied hugely, but the West price with a big holiday discount was the best.
