On my C37 the bulwark on which the cap rail is attached is accessible from the sliding cabinet over the sink.I simply drilled a hole into the bulwark from the deck side not thru the caprail and installed the hose to the pump thru the hole ,then installed a Perko hose fitting over the hole. The stanchions are also bolted thru the bulwark in the same fashion. There is enough room inside the bulwark for a small hand or a wrench, about 3" I'd guess.I've had this system for about 10 yrs. and have never had any problems with losing prime to the head or pump nor with the hose leaking and sinking the boat.

Thanks, Niftynickers. I had considered that option but determined that
I had inadequate room for the hose-to-outlet fitting (a 90 degree barbed/threaded elbow). I will recheck it again.

Washdown details...sorry for late reply

The factory must have pre-planned two deck fittings about an inch and one-half inboard from the bulwark because the gel coat was cracked in two circles. I installed a water fill in one hole and the wash-down connection in the second.

The wash-down was a quick connect from Jabsco. I'm relatively happy with it except for the small hose adapter parts. I'm no engineer but it sure seems like there are less complicated single piece adapters. I purchased a spare just in case the small spring goes swimming. Also, the connection is pretty difficult to twist on. My wife couldn't do it but I think she prefers to be at the helm vs. washing the anchor down.

Thanks for the additional information, PCSSailor. I have decided to use the Jabsco quick-connect - through the deck near the waste outlet. Mostly due to simplicity of installation. I do not have a pre-planned "spot" for it, however, so will have to make do..

I have heard that some sailors have had issues with broken or lost hose adapters for the quick-connect setup, so having an extra one or two aboard makes good sense.
