If you cannot have your alternator rebuilt (which would not be very costly) you might look at Tuff Stuff Performance 7068ABULL - Tuff Stuff Silver Bullet Alternators - Show All - SummitRacing.com . We've had one of these aboard our boat for 10+ years without difficulty. The internal regulator is disabled and the unit is controlled by a Balmar AR-5

FWIW...

Another excellent source of electrical supplies including alternators etc. is Hamilton Ferris. I've had excellent service and very competitive pricing from them.

So does your 90 series have the single foot or the dual foot? I looked at a couple pictures of the 90 series and one of them (single foot) looked a lot like a Delco 10DN alternator. That type of alternator is widely available and in different amperages. I bought a rebuilt one that put out around 60 amps for a spare for my Leece Neville 110 amp for around $70. I bought one that had been beefed to 100 amps for a previous boat for less than $150.

There's a fellow that hangs around here with the handle HelloSailor that seems to have a pretty good handle on this type of information. You might drop him a PM.

What about the 80 series, ok, you lose 10 amps, but is it that critical?

balmar replied, saying the model had been very much outdated, and that "The 60 series 100 amp alternator would be an excellent choice for an alternator repower. It would be best purchased in an attractively priced kit with everything needed to bring your charging system up to the latest standards. The 60-YP 110-SR-KIT includes the new 6 series 100 amp alternator, an ARS-5-H alternator with the wire harness along with battery and alternator temperature sensors. The best prices for this kit can be found online."

so, will follow that suggestion and see what's out there. thanks to you all.

SV it's interesting to note a non "marine" component that costs less then 25% of something like Balmar can be so reliable in the "wrong" type of installation.
